JESUS CALMS THE STORM

Topic: Jesus Calms the Storm

Text: Mark 4:35-41

When it was evening time, Jesus suggested to His Disciples that they should cross to the other side of the lake.

Leaving the crowd behind, Jesus and His disciples entered the boat and set sail along with a few other boats that followed.

As they sailed, a great storm of wind arose and the waves beat into the boat so that the boat was now full of water. It was clear that the boat was going to sink.

Jesus was in the back part of the boat, fast asleep on a pillow when the Disciples woke Him up. One can only but imagine the fear that must have gripped them at this point.

The Disciples cried unto Jesus, saying “Master, don’t You care that we are going to die?” The Disciples have always known Jesus to be a caring Master and Shepherd. Has Jesus changed?

At this point, Jesus has to step into the situation and change it for good.

And so, Jesus got up and shouted words into the wind, and said to the waves, “Peace, be still”. Immediately, the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Facing His Disciples, Jesus said, “how can you be so afraid? After all, you have seen Me do, where is your faith?”

By this time, the Disciples were still shivering on account of all that happened. And they said to one another, who is this Jesus? How can it be that He has power over even the wind and the waves?

One will understand that the Disciples were used to seeing Jesus heal the sick, drive out evil spirits, and others but not to exercise power over nature. That day, the Disciples learned something new about Jesus.

Memory Verse: Mark 4:39, “And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm”.

Lesson: Jesus can calm the storm of your life because He has power over every situation. Trust Him and you will be glad you did.
