Love, forgiveness, and unity are interwoven. The three are indispensable terms by which man’s or Christians’ conducts are being guided. Love entails enjoying or taking pleasure in something. Love endures many things 1Corinthians 13:4-7. The exhibition of love began from God in the Bible. God demonstrated love by creating man in His likeness Genesis1:26.
As recorded in the Bible, man forfeited this opportunity and there was a break in the relationship Genesis3:1-24. In God’s love, He made restitution by allowing Jesus Christ to be born for the salvation of mankind Romans5:8, John3:16-17; He suffered and was crucified to death. As God had shown love to man, there is a need to, in turn, love God as well. Matthew 22:37, 1John 4:19. Apart from that, man has been enjoined to love one another, 1John4:7,11,21.
Man’s love can also be directed to material things on earth. Man’s wants are numerous. So, Christians should avoid longing for anything that can separate us from the Lord.
In addition, Forgiveness is another attribute of God. It is a deliberate decision to release a feeling of vengeance toward a person or a group who has offended whether such person or group deserves it or not. Our God showed forgiveness to us by giving us His only begotten son-Jesus Christ whose blood was shed as an atonement of the sin of mankind. John 3:16-17, Rom 8:5-9.
A prodigal son who had wasted his property received forgiveness from his father Lk15:11-24. Also, Philemon’s account revealed an act of forgiveness as Apostle Paul pleaded for the forgiveness of the offenses that Onesmus had committed against his master, . Philemon 1:11-end.
Also Jesus Christ and Stephen prayed for the forgiveness of their persecutors as Jesus said, ‘Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing’ Lk23:34,Act 7:60. Even, an adage says ‘To err is human and to forgive is divine’. Christians should imbibe the act of forgiveness as Jesus had commanded in Matt. 6:12.
Furthermore, the existence of God in three persons – God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is a revelation of divine unity. Unity is the state of being in one accord or oneness. The intimate and inseparable persons of God work together to achieve the same purpose. Although each appears and works in different beings, the Trinity testifies to the truth of eternity, performs miracles, engages in the creation, and so on.
God also created man in three forms -the spirit, body, and soul. There must be an agreement among them in order to have peace of life. There was a demonstration of the work of unity in the creation story Gen1:26. Collective responsibility was carried out when a man was created Psalm33:6, Heb1:2. The biblical story ‘Tower of Babel’ in Genesis11:1-9 showed unity as people agreed to build a tower that would reach heaven. By divine unity of Trinity of God, the plan was destroyed by changing their languages.
Therefore, Love, Forgiveness, and Unity are attributes of God and are interwoven, without Love, there won’t be forgiven, without forgiveness, there won’t unity Amos3:3. If all these are lacking in our homes, society, and nations, there will be violence. An adage has confirmed this, that “Together we stand, divided we fall”.
In conclusion, in this life we are aliens, we will go to our creator one day. Children of God are expected to avoid anything that can hinder the mutual relationship between us and our God and fellow human beings.
